Discussion TD7

Paper , Order, or Assignment Requirements

You will be working with your group to do the background research to make recommendations to KOA based on the primary research we are conducting. This is really a true consulting experience, we won’t have the data for a few weeks, so we need to work diligently to put the rest of the report together so we can move quickly (me included) once the data is transferred. I will also provide a template for the report.

The variables of interest with regards to TD 7 are: Temperature, extreme temperature (hot and cold), precipitation, extreme precipitation, drought, extreme weather events (e.g., hurricane, tornados).

This TD should be between four and eight paragraphs, and my expectation on sources is probably between six and 10 to cover the content adequately. Some of these will come from previous annotated bibliographies that have been compiled. For the global section, the IPCC report is a great resource. There are plenty of models and historical studies if you search the US in the library databases. The Ingram et al. (2013) report is great for the Southeast. Go ahead and write this TD in APA format, double-spaced in Times New Roman 12 font, and should be in an uploaded WORD document.

Fieldwork Reflection

Paper , Order, or Assignment Requirements

You wil “make believe” that you observed students who have been studying English for less than two years. It is also recommended that you interview the teacher that you observe (make believe that you did) to get a deeper understanding of the teacher’s pedagogical approach. You will identify and document the language and content objectives, learning standards addressed elements of the lesson, and the instructional strategies used in the classroom. You will develop your responses through your observations and reflections as to the effectiveness of the instructional models and approaches observed. Please include 500-word descriptions per questions, of each of your field experiences and use the relevant academic language covered in this course, such as BICS, CALP, CUP, Scaffolding, 1+1 etc. In order to build up on this experience, you will be answering the following questions. Remember, this is a fieldwork reflective paper. Please do your best and make it sound realistic/believable. You MUST be an EDUCATION Major and have some sort of experience and/or background working with this population being ESL/ELL students. Remember that each of your responses must be at least 500-word descriptions. Check for grammatical errors. Use examples and share your experience. Let your experience be rewarding and intellectual. 1) What was the purpose of your experiences as they related to the course objectives? 2) Explain a brief synopsis of your experiences. 3) Your reflection: How have the field experiences informed your perceptions of the school environment? **Please make sure that when you answer these questions, you include the language of Bilingual Education.

Connecting the dots: Essay 1

Paper , Order, or Assignment Requirements

1000-plus word essay and brief (solo) class presentation — powerpoint, presi, keynote, etc. — with images, (optional) video, and other media of your choice.

Connecting the Dots and Trying Something: Using class readings, discussions and outside research, you will dig deeper into work happening in placemaking, tactical urbanism and socially engaged art on a national or international level that you find especially interesting and write an essay about that work — linking it, however possible in the discussion, to your project work and thinking so far in class.

For this essay, you will frame the writing with you views addressing this in the context of at least one of the three questions we developed as a class on Oct. 24.

These are (paraphrased and added to a bit by me):

1.How can we help communities develop into better places (safer, less vacant, better quality of life, better connected physically and socially, etc.) without displacing people who are already there? Why is this important to consider? What are others doing about this as examples? What can we learn from this?
2. How do we find out what people want —what they think will make them feel happier and make communities better — and make sure our work is connected to those desires? Why is this important? What are others doing about this as examples? What can we learn from this?
3. What kinds of things do individuals want that can also translate into improved community-wide happiness? How do we help communities find these shared interests? And how can we measure success — like community happiness? What are others doing about this as examples? What can we learn from this?

Family and consumer science

Paper , Order, or Assignment Requirements

The story “Jaguar Sun” makes reference to two distinct religious connotations with regards to food: the recipes enjoyed by the nuns in the convent and the pre-Columbian religious rituals. The story also depicts the experience of eating in terms of sensual pleasure.

Write a 400 word essay in which you analyze the implications of using a religious or sensual lens through which to understand the concept of hunger and/or satiety. Pick one of these two frames (religious or sensual), and make an argument about how the story’s depiction of hunger impacts the way in which food or meals figure in the narrative.

Keep in mind:

1.We are serious about the word limit. You may be over or under by 10 words (390-410).

2. All essays must have a title more descriptive than “Graded Discussion”. Your title should indicate what the essay’s argument will be.

2. The thesis/argument must be underlined.

a. The thesis should be the penultimate statement in your introductory paragraph. It should explain how your chosen text depicts or discusses the 2 types of hunger. Do not begin an intro paragraph with a thesis statement. The last statement should explain the significance.

b. For it to be analytical, you must make a claim about the significance of the 2 types of hunger in your chosen text .

c. Explain the significance of your thesis in the sentence following your articulation of it.

3. The argument cannot be a statement of fact–you must advance a claim that must be proven through the use of evidence in the body paragraphs (in this case, focus on a quote or set of brief quotes from the story).

4. All essays must cite at least 2 direct quotes from the text as proof of the claims they make. If you’d like to cite something slightly longer than a sentence, go ahead and use the first and last words of the quote (to give us a sense of where it is) so as to not go over the word limit.

a. It’s not enough to just plop a quote down. You must unpack the quotes by explaining HOW they prove the point you say they do.

4. Do NOT write about: the reader, the author, you, I, we. These words must all be avoide
