Assignment 4: Inmates Rights and Special Circumstances
Due Week 8 and worth 150 points
According to the preamble to the U.S. Constitution, one (1) of the founding philosophies of the United States is that each person, citizen or not, is endowed with certain permanent rights. This philosophy extends even to people who have committed crimes that warrant prison sentences. Imagine that you are a commissioner on the Board of State Prison, and you are responsible for making recommendations regarding inmate rights and special circumstances. Use the Internet to research costs that an inmate could incur if he or she chooses to challenge his or her confinement.
Write a five (5) page paper in which you:
1. Analyze the legal mechanisms in which an inmate can challenge his or her confinement. Support or refute the cost of such challenges to the state and / or federal government. Provide a rationale for your response.
2. Examine the four (4) management issues that arise as a result of inmates with special needs. Prepare one (1) recommendation for each management issue that effectively neutralizes each concern. Provide a rationale for your response.
3. Determine whether the use of supermax housing violates offenders’ rights against “cruel and unusual punishment,” as guaranteed by the Eighth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. Justify your response.
4. Use at least three (3) quality references. Note: Wikipedia and other Websites do not qualify as academic resources.
Your assignment must follow these formatting requirements:

Paper , Order, or Assignment Requirements

Business Policy and Research realted topic
1. Take a look at the Mott McDonald case study http://businesscasestudies.co.uk/mott-macdonald/creating-strategic-direction/introduction.html (note that there are six pages to this case study) and discuss their mission, vision, and values in terms of this course. To what extent do these serve as decision guides for strategic managers in the organization?

4. Romulac Inc. (RI), a subsidiary of a large successful manufacturing conglomerate, supplies a key component in the assembly of residential cooling systems (air conditioning units, etc.). There has been tremendous consolidation in RI’s industry, to the point where only five suppliers of this particular component account for nearly 90 percent of U.S. industry sales. Paralleling this trend, its customers—composed of makers of branded residential air conditioning units like Carrier and Trane—have seen similar levels of consolidation in their own industry. Half of these firms produce all their components in-house, while the balance purchases them from specialized component manufacturers like RI. RI’s business is extremely capital intensive, and their 40 percent share of the market allows them to also be the most profitable domestic player. Strong competitors exist in Europe and Asia. Although like RI, these foreign players’ strongholds are their home regions, with negligible presence outside of the region. Some of the larger Asian manufacturers have signaled an interest in more aggressively pursuing the lucrative U.S. market. RI is presently considering a $400 million dollar investment in a new plant, which will create a component that is much quieter, more efficient, and is likely to satisfy future regulatory standards. While the core technology for the new component is very old, RI’s engineering and design skills have allowed them to retain their low cost advantage, even though the component will represent a significant improvement over products currently provided by its competition.
a. Develop an argument as to why RI should try to be a first-mover with this new technology.
b. Develop an argument as to why RI should try to be a second-mover with this new technology

Jim and Laura Buyer visit the local car dealership because they are interested in buying a new car. The car they currently have is aging and is starting to have mechanical problems. Jim and Laura would share the new car, and use it to go back and forth to work and school. Before going to the dealership, Jim and Laura decide that they can only afford $400.00 a month in car payments.
Once at the car dealership, Jim and Laura meet Stan Salesman. Stan shows them several vehicles and Jim and Laura test-drive several of the cars. Jim and Laura particularly like the blue 4-door sedan. Therefore, they agree to give Stan Salesman a $100.00 deposit to hold the car for a day. Stan Salesman does not give them the receipt but guarantees that the $100.00 is refundable. No documents were signed.
The next day, Stan Salesman calls Jim and Laura to ask them when they would like to take delivery of the car. Jim and Laura, on the way home from the dealership, decided that they were not going to buy the car because they did not want to spend that money each month. Therefore, Jim and Laura tell Stan salesman that they have decided not to buy the car and request their $100.00 deposit back.
Stan insists that the $100.00 was a deposit on the car and was meant to be part of the contract to buy the car. Stan is very persistent and insistent that Jim and Laura have contracted to buy the car; therefore, the $100.00 will be applied to the purchase price of the car. Measuring Employee Morale

Paper , Order, or Assignment Requirements

Cindy’s boss has been assigned the task of measuring employee morale in the company where they work. Cindy’s boss is too busy to create this report; therefore, Cindy’s boss has directed Cindy to complete it. Cindy developed a survey, had employees complete it, reviewed the findings, and presented her final findings in a report. Later, Cindy showed the report to her immediate boss.
